Late 1920s / early 30s Sage Silk Day Dress
late 20-early 30s vintage
just a lovely, easy breezy sage green silk number. loose cut with slightly dropped waist and 6 paneled skirt. Pretty surplice neckline with decorative scalloped seams and buttons. self fabric belt with button detail. pulls over head. belt snaps into place.
material: silk
label: none,home/hand made
sizing: best for M
model is M, 5’ 8” 36 b | 29 w | 40 h
shoulders: 15 ¼”
bust: 40”
waist: 34” (this is lower than natural waist and should have a relaxed fit- belt is currently at 32” but you could shift snaps and buttons to adjust if desired)
hip: 43”
bodice length: 17 ¾”
skirt length: 27”
condition: good. sturdy, homemade day wear, freshly cleaned. A number of cosmetic issues I’ve taken into account when pricing: buttons are pretty, old shell buttons, but not original to the dress. Hem was taken up just over 2” to camoflage black inky/paint marks that are likely permanent. One small strip peaks out in the back. See image. A future owner could opt to have the hem cut and totally redone- I have left all fabric intact and simply folded under and restitched. I attempted to patch a few small holes in the skirt using surplus fabric and a lightweight fusible. Sadly the fusible (which I’ve had great success with in the past!) didn’t react well with the silk- there are visible lines I was unable to iron out (see image). I think, when worn these are easy to overlook, but when backlit without a slip, at the right angle, are definitely visible. A little wear to back neckline. A little patch of stitch holes from where an old button was sewn on unevenly (I opted to replace the button in a more even spot, but this means the old needle punctures show!) and overall a little wear, some small scattered marks. I think it presents quite nicely, feels great on, and is and perfect companion for summertime adventure.
