Antique Victorian Vulcanite Locket

antique c. 1880s

molded vulcanite locket with smooth matte finished exterior and decorative floral applique in high relief. the interior compartments with highly detailed carved floral and foliate accents. with original vulcanite bale. offered with a length of vintage black velvet ribbon, or add to your own chain!

note: Vulcanite is a form of processed rubber that became popular as a less expensive alternative to jet in jewelry making -especially mourning jewelry- of the Victorian era. 

locket is 1 1/2" x 1 1/4"

very good/excellent condition. exterior has a mellow, burnished brown color with some slight variation typical of the material/era. 1/4" shallow/thin scratch along the lower front.
