Antique Victorian Love Knot Brooch with Lucky Horseshoe
Antique Victorian Love Knot Brooch with Lucky Horseshoe
c. 1890s
gold-filled, the knots with etched accents flanking a horseshoe and central piece of natural coral entwined in gold wire. C-clasp pin. unmarked.
The Victorians loved their symbolism, especially when worn in jewelry form. The "love knot" -representing an unending, unbreakable bond- is a common jewelry motif of the era. Many trends in fashion and jewelry of the period were- aptly- set by Queen Victoria (who passed in 1901). Coral was a favorite stone of hers. Love knots of this style- with a bit of coral- are quintessentially Victorian.
1 1/2" long, 5/8" tall
very good/excellent condition. coral has some whitened areas to surface, as seen.
