Antique Silk Embroidered Piano Shawl

c. 1890s-1910s

large ecru silk ground with dramatic knotted tassel trim. Embroidered with scrolling floral motifs and song birds in a beautiful pastel colorway that includes peaches, pinks, teals, lavenders.

48" X 52" body, tassels add about 22" on all sides

good condition. silk is soft, not brittle and the tassels hang nicely with few knots/kinks. on inspection, there is general light dye transfer from the dark pink flowers onto areas of the silk ground, this can be seen by zooming on photos. there are some scattered pinholes, and one larger pinky-nail sized hole towards the center of the silk. there are some areas of stress to the silk near edges, where tasseling is attached. see images. even with these flaws accounted for, I find the piece to be a striking and lovely example of this style and very wearable for a special occasion. priced with condition in mind. recommend to store folded flat, with protective tissue paper to help prevent further strain to silk.
