antique c. 1820s-30s
Rosy 8 karat gold band and crimped collet setting housing a halo of split seed pearls and a central glass frame over a small length of braided hair.
note: in the highly sentimental pre-photography Victorian Era, it was common to wear hairwork jewelry as a way of remembering and holding close someone dear to the wearer- someone far away or departed from this realm. Pearls often symbolized tears. When hairwork and pearls are combined in a piece of jewelry -such as this- we can safely guess the piece was made for mourning.
