1970s Mexican Tooled Leather Bag by Mont Abur
1970s Mexican Tooled Leather Bag by Mont Abur
1970s vintage
Large walnut leather handbag with all-over embossed decoration, including a central scene of a bullfight flanked by flowers (perhaps stylized carnations- the national flower of Spain) on the front, and an Aztec medallion flanked by cactus and agave on the back, both in high relief. Accordion-style secures with a top latching tab, and opens to reveal three interior compartments; the center with large top zipper, the outer with interior zipper pockets.
label: stamped “Hecho En Mexico”, missing fabric label but I am fairly certain is a Mont Abur
approx. measurements: 8 ½” ht. x 12” wd. x 3” dp. at base
condition: very good. The leather is in excellent condition, strong and supple. General, even use wear evident, as seen in images. handles have darkened with use. Interior shows a little wear, but overall is clean. I think the patina serves this style well.
